In questions of adaptation to change, it’s always fun to look back at the Question: who invented the Digital Camera? Answer: Kodak . But they stuck it in a drawer because they were afraid it would ruin their film business. The studio system is 120 years old and adapted very well to sound, colour, and using 3D and epics to fight off TV. And in the 70/80/90s they were lucky in that a new generation of filmmakers arrived alongside VHS and DVD. But they now are stuck with a structure that does not fit 21st c tech and I don’t think they can adapt any further . Your term “hostile” for new digital models may be correct from a studio POV but will look “friendly” to creators and consumers ,
